A large number of issued patents contain errors. A patent is enforceable if it is granted. Therefore errors have a bearing on the enforceability of a patent. This makes proofreading of an issued patent a critical prosecution step. Proofreading identifies errors which can affect the patent's enforceability. It is a time-consuming process that can become quite expensive.
